Public Involvement Process

A unique aspect of Phase I and Phase II of the Hazel Avenue Corridor Study and Improvement Project was the County's emphasis on early and active community and stakeholder participation. The extensive public involvement program ensured that the public was informed of project developments and were provided an opportunity to express their opinions and concerns. Much of the Study’s success can be attributed to active community participation and collaboration.

Community Advisory Committee
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) was comprised of representatives from the community and various stakeholder groups representing Hazel Avenue property owners, residents, neighborhood associations, environmental organizations, the business community, commuters and other special interest groups. These individuals were selected out of more than 50 community leader and resident interviews. They represented the full scope of interests that needed to be present during CAC discussions. View the list of CAC representatives and their affiliated stakeholder group. The CAC provided a voice for those stakeholders affected by the existing corridor and any potential modifications to it. The CAC was involved with all aspects of Phase I and Phase II of the Study including the development, refinement and eventually the selection of the two current project alternatives. In June 2002, the CAC presented their project recommendations to the Board of Supervisors after two years of hard work and dedication to the Study.

Open House
Public open houses were held to inform and update the surrounding community and other interested parties. These open houses served as an opportunity for the general public to become involved and to provide comment on the Study. Four public open houses have been held to date. View meeting summaries.

Adjacent Property Owner Workshops
Adjacent property owner workshops gave special attention to the unique issues facing owners and occupants of property situated directly along the Hazel Avenue Corridor. Invitations were sent directly to adjacent property owners. To date, two of these special workshops have been held.

Technical Advisory Committee
The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) consisted of representatives from public agencies and organizations, including Sacramento County, Caltrans, Regional Transit, SACOG, and State Parks. The TAC provided review and direction for the technical studies and were a resource for generating and evaluating project alternatives.
