The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is
a group of community representatives actively engaged in developing
alternative improvement proposals for Hazel Avenue. CAC members
were selected from interviews with more than 50 community
leaders and residents and currently represent Hazel Avenue
property owners, residents, neighborhood associations, environmental
organizations, the business community, transit groups, recreational
groups, neighborhood associations, commuters and other special
interest stakeholders. Meet the members.
The Community Advisory Committee is and will continue to
be a partner with the County of Sacramento in Phases I and
II of the Hazel Avenue Corridor Study. In the first phase
of the study, extensive public outreach was conducted to solicit
community input about problems along the corridor, stakeholder
issues and interests, and recommendations for improvements.
Based on the feedback received throughout Phase I, the CAC
developed Issues and Interests statements and a Problem
Objective Statement.

The CAC developed a comprehensive list of improvement options
which they later screened to a shorter-list for more detailed
evaluation. During Phase II (the current phase), based on
a technical review of the proposed improvement options, the
CAC will work with staff to recommend a preferred alternative
for environmental review and approval by the County Board
of Supervisors.
The strength of the Hazel Avenue Corridor Study and the success
of any project it recommends lies in the level of community
input it receives. By implementing a comprehensive public
involvement strategy focusing on community education and involvement
(via the CAC), Sacramento County officials hope to resolve
the congestion along Hazel Avenue with a solution that is
fair to commuters, residents and taxpayers of the County.
