Hazel Avenue has the opportunity to improve several modes of travel along this corridor. Community concerns about existing transportation include the following:
Automobiles Automobiles
Existing traffic is exceeding the roadway capacity. Anticipated population and employment growth in the region will overwhelm the corridor and cause gridlock conditions.
Trucks
Heavy truck traffic in the corridor is perceived by some as a problem, yet businesses and the community need them for commerce.
Trucks
Transit Transit
Bus service on Hazel Avenue is limited to two express routes per day.
Pedestrians
There are too few crosswalks across Hazel Avenue and inadequate pedestrian access to the American River Parkway.
Pedestrians
Bicycles Bicycles
Within the corridor only certain segments are striped specifically for bike lanes, leaving critical gaps and inadequate bicycle access to the American River Parkway.
The Hazel Avenue Corridor Study will address these mobility concerns, and others identified through the community involvement program, and develop alternatives to improve the corridor.
