The County of Sacramento, Department of Transportation, is conducting
the Hazel Avenue Corridor Study and Improvement Project. The
study focuses on the 2-mile section of Hazel Avenue between
Madison Avenue and Gold Country Boulevard. View the aerial photo ( 3 mb - Download Adobe Acrobat Reader). Traffic from the surrounding communities use this
corridor, including: |
Fair Oaks
Orangevale
Gold River
Folsom
Rancho Cordova
Citrus Heights
Roseville
Rocklin
Granite Bay
El Dorado Hills
|
 |
| Hazel Avenue has the opportunity
to improve several modes of travel along this corridor. Community
concerns about existing transportation include the following: |
 |
Automobiles
Existing traffic is exceeding the roadway capacity. Anticipated
population and employment growth in the region will overwhelm
the corridor and cause gridlock conditions.
|
Trucks
Heavy truck traffic in the corridor is perceived by some as
a problem, yet businesses and the community need them for commerce.
|
 |
 |
Transit
Bus service on Hazel Avenue is limited to two express routes
per day. |
Pedestrians
There are too few crosswalks across Hazel Avenue and inadequate
pedestrian access to the American River Parkway. |
 |
 |
Bicycles
Within the corridor only certain segments are striped specifically
for bike lanes, leaving critical gaps and inadequate bicycle
access to the American River Parkway. |
| The Hazel Avenue Corridor Study will
address these mobility concerns, and others identified through
the community involvement program, and develop alternatives
to improve the corridor. |
